How It Started
The People's Budget was implemented through the efforts of the Youth Organizing Fellowship, a Multicultural Resource Center program that teaches young people how to organize for change in their community. From the spring of 2016 to November 2017, fellows reached out to communities in Southside and Northside to spread awareness and get ideas, while simultaneously communicating with the city and developing a proposal for the pilot year of PB.
The Pilot Year Team
Now that this process has been implemented, two YOF alumni, Emma Dennis and Ahja Haedicke, as well as local students Deahannah White and Amanda Hawley, are coordinating the pilot year and setting up sustainable systems for years to come. Both young people with experience in grassroots organizing, they will be working to ensure that PB is and will remain an equitable tool for the people of Ithaca.
